Success! Ready for the 2009 tour season.

Preparing Wood Island Lighthouse for a new tour season is not always an easy task. A rainy month of June created limited opportunities for volunteers to get out to the island and prepare the lighthouse and grounds. On this last day of June, nine volunteers ventured out into a damp encompassing fog to tackle this important task. Seaweed was removed from the board walk, the house and tower were swept, displays were put up, the lantern room glass cleaned, and the overgrown yard was weed wacked and mowed. After several hours of work, the lighthouse was ready for the first guests of 2009.

Throughout July and August, FOWIL's dedicated band of "Woodchucks" will venture out to the lighthouse for a few hours every week in order to keep the grounds in tip-top shape.
